LOOK BEYOND SELF

live fully create happiness speak kindly decor

Every day we live our lives and consume quotes from "celebrities" or motivational sites that tell us things like:

  • It's my life so I live it like I please
  • It's okay to be a little selfish
  • If it's good by you, then keep at it
...the list could go on forever. Now while all these are not bad by themselves, you have to understand that fundamentally, no man is an island. Think about it, these words didn't fall from heaven and land on the page where you found them, someone, as a result of peculiar experiences they had, wrote them and maybe they had some cool sharing power or a social media account with followers that can lay a siege on your country, so a few retweets or shares brought it your way. We could argue that no one is perfect and I would win because even as you read this, you are aware of the very little imperfections that are only known to you and God.

Your life is connected to a million others around you, this connection might not be tangible enough for you to perceive it, yet it exists. Whether or not you recognize it, it's there. People watch you for various reasons:
  • To find stuff they could talk about because they are jobless
  • To know if you are also as imperfect as they are
  • To see if you lead the life you constantly advertise and preach when they are looking
  • to see what they could learn from you
The percentage of those that study your life to see what good they can emulate is really small, and if you could take this minority into consideration, you would make better choices. Now I'm not telling you to live to please other people, because chances are, you might never ever in your lifetime meet any one of them since they study you from afar, and a few eventually get to tell you to your face, but you will impact their life choices nevertheless.

We can be a better version of ourselves, and the truth is, in the end, we will be better off for it.
