ESTHER'S LETTER

Hey Ess,                       I sat and cleaned up my apartment today, seated beneath a pile of my old college books was a picture of the two of us; I just stood, carrying my 1980's fro and a  bland look on my face with the exception of the plastic smile I had mastered over the years, and you, you... my dear, brought life to the picture with your hands that were spread so far out as your hair danced in the wind, while we stood within a frame of the prestigious University of Portharcourt logo, you always wore the prettiest smile I had ever seen in the twenty-five years I had been alive. It was our convocation, and I must say that we had a great four years in school. You are that one friend I feel no pressure around and even though we had our issues back then it was nothing our friendship couldn't weather.              Today, the story has changed, but the love hasn't. The friendship is str...

LOOK BEYOND SELF

Every day we live our lives and consume quotes from "celebrities" or motivational sites that tell us things like: It's my life so I live it like I please  It's okay to be a little selfish  If it's good by you, then keep at it ...the list could go on forever. Now while all these are not bad by themselves, you have to understand that fundamentally, no man is an island. Think about it, these words didn't fall from heaven and land on the page where you found them, someone, as a result of peculiar experiences they had, wrote them and maybe they had some cool sharing power or a social media account with followers that can lay a siege on your country, so a few retweets or shares brought it your way. We could argue that no one is perfect and I would win because even as you read this, you are aware of the very little imperfections that are only known to you and God. Your life is connected to a million others around you, this connection might not be tangib...

INSIDE STORY

Image
The alarm goes wild and Janelle’s phone falls from the bed as she stretches and wearily opens her eyes one after the other.  She suddenly realizes how cold her pink-themed room is and sighs as she spots her duvet nestled to one corner of the bed, far from her reach. “Thank God I live alone,” she says as she sits up nude and lazily walks to her live-sized mirror to admire her very unique physique; her legs are as straight as the Pillars of Hercules, joined to her pelvis on which her very African hips sit. The brown of her skin glows and only darkens where her areolas sit on her perfectly formed upright bosoms. This appears to be a regular routine every morning and the smile presently adorning her spotless face is proof positive that she enjoys looking at her reflection in the mirror. Her reverie is cut short because the reality of being queried should she get to work late, dawns on her, so she saunters into the bathroom. Opening the cabinet to her right, ...

Dear Tola,

We fell in love and that was the problem, seeing as we sauntered towards an end that had no beginning. We laced our hearts with a love that was borne of pure lust and eschewed every promissory note of trust. Tee...I'll lie to you if I say I didn't have my doubts when we decided to try. You had your reservations yet the forlorn feeling that adorned your guts motivated you to trudge whilst pushing for a relationship that had no foundation nor a reasonable future we could see at the time. Last night when we waved goodbye and I watched the lights of your taxi trail off , I thought for a moment what my life would be like without you... ...I had no answer, and this really disturbed me. If we were characters in a movie, this would be the scene where a montage plays out, showing different scenes of our show of affection. We would be holding hands , dancing wild in the sun, throwing food at each other as we cook in my kitchen, there'll definitely be the pillow fight and it...

A PIECE OF MY HEART

There's a million things I want to say A million words I keep at bay Cos you're worth more than words can tell And love more than love itself My time with you reeks of pure bliss The thought of you puts the lilt in my songs For every smile of yours I miss  The love you teach counts no wrongs You are a music maverick You are a charm  If love had a yardstick It would be grown in your farm I would tell you I love you  But my feelings for you make love a joke  So I'll say I've loved you  That way it feels like it's always been there  your favorite writer @klynic

MEET KLYNIC

Many musicians start their bio by telling you how they grew up around music, for most of them, Mum or Dad had something to do with music; maybe it was an instrument, just vocals or both. My name is Klyn .C. Akwarandu and I didn't have that luxury :( . Mum is a fashion designer and Daddy a business man, both grew up in their hometown where farming was the order of the day. So here I was, starved of a musical background by nature and nurture. From a young age I started to develop a predilection for music, I first adored and loved MICHAEL JACKSON, He was my hero, I practically could replicate every dance every I saw him perform on TV. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE Soon as I turned 7, I started having a certain push towards instruments. I would always arrange a set broomstick on top a flat table and use it as my snare drum on which I will beat hard and use my leg as the bass drum. Trust me when I say that it was mad fun. Later on in high school I joined the school’s band, where I stay...
